Nuneaton News – Care for Care Homes
We were thrilled that Nuneaton News shared our work on the Care for Care Homes campaign.
Every section got involved and roped in brothers, sisters, parents and even the odd Nan to help. They have painted, planted, baked, sewed, coloured in, crafted, and donated.
After speaking with our local care homes we heard of how not only have they not been able to have any visitors for obvious reasons, most of the residents are also isolated in their rooms – not even able to socialise with the other residents, and had been that way for 3 months.
Many of the items the Scouts made included a tea bag and a positive message or some kind words. The idea was that the residents can have a cuppa while they read their cards.
They really used their imaginations – we had beautiful paper flowers and colourful pictures to brighten up rooms, kindness rocks, bird feeders that could be put outside windows, with print outs of birds to watch out for, plants that the children had grown whilst in lockdown, and some seeds so that residents could grow their own. They printed colouring sheets and donated colouring pencils, puzzles, books and other items.
One of our scouts has ducks in his back garden, so decided to kindly donate fresh duck eggs. He drew rainbows and a ‘Stay Safe’ message on all of the boxes.
We wanted something for each resident, but didn’t think we’d get enough to give them each a little gift bag of goodies – and we made sure they all got some chocolate or biscuits, and a peppermint creme too because, well, who doesn’t love a peppermint creme?
The Stables Care Home, Oldbury Grange Nursing Home, Linden Grange Residential Home and Individual Care Services – all in Hartshill, who have well over 100 residents between them were so appreciative of everything!
We had some teary eyes from some of the staff (and us too)
Have a look in the Gallery for more pictures of what our awesome Young People did!
